Where can I see red squirrels in the North West?

As you can see from the red dots on the map, there are a great number of places throughout North West England where red squirrels still remain.

Where else can I see red squirrels?

This map shows where red squirrels still remain in Britain. In general, good locations tend to be large forests in Scotland or on the Isle of Wight - but the easiest spots are where someone has put out a feeder. For example, a large country house next to a wood would be a good place to try!

Alston, not only England's higest market town, but reds are all around the area. Try Nenthead Mining Museum where there are some red squirrel feeders. Eamont Bridge to Lowther Castle. Walk along the public footpath, through the caravan park. It's a great place to see Reds. The tea-room at Dalemain. Reds, beautiful surroundings and hot tea! Thirlmere. This large forest around the reservoir is a beautiful place for a chance sighting of a red in the woodland. The Squirrel's Pantry Tea-room, Cockermouth. Where better to watch red squirrels than in a comfy seat with a hot cup of tea! Whinlatter Forest Park. When the Ospreys aren't here why not come and see the red squirrels on the webcam! Ennerdale. This remote and quiet forest with its Youth Hostel is a great spot for seeing reds. Nether Wasdale. If you're visiting Wast Water and Sca Fell, why not walk through the woods as reds are seen regularly. Grizedale Forest Park. Many grey squirrels are in the area, but reds still remain and you may be lucky to see one. Sefton should be known as Red Squirrels Mecca!! The easiest place in England to see lots of red squirrlels.
