Top Squirrel spotting tips Here are a few simple ways to tell the difference between red and grey squirrels. You'll be surprised, but despite the names 'red' and 'grey', we do not actually advise that you use colour as the best way of telling squirrels apart - the reason for this is that coat colour is very variable. Here are a couple of photos
of reds and greys to show how variable coat colour can be. Can you tell
which is the red and which is the grey?
Follow our top tips below and you should be able to work out which squirrel is which - answers at bottom of page just to be sure!
Top set of images - red or grey? The squirrel on the left is a juvenile grey - it is slender and has a reddish summer coat. The squirrel on the right is a red, in its greyish winter coat. Remember: Ignore coat colour! |
