The Red Alert North West partnership was set up in 1993 to safeguard the remaining red squirrel populations in North West England.

A little history...

Sadly, the grey squirrel was introduced to the UK from North America in the 1876. It wasn't known at the time, but the grey out-competes our native red squirrel and has already replaced it in much of England and Wales.
The North West is one of the last areas in England where red squirrels can still be seen living in the wild. Help us keep it here.

We hope you enjoy our web site. Here you can learn all about red squirrels and the threats that face its future.  There are plenty of photographs and you can find out what Red Alert is doing to help the Red Squirrel. You can also discover how you can help.
